Inhibitory Effects of Appropriate Addition of Zero-Valent Iron on NH3 and H2S Emissions during Sewage Sludge Composting

Large amounts of NH3 and H2S are emitted during sewage sludge composting, resulting in odor pollution. This composting experiment was carried out using mixed with sawdust, different zero-valent iron (ZVI) were added to investigate the effect on volatile gases, such as H2S, analyze available sulfur, total moisture content, germination index compost. The results showed that addition ZVI process had noticeable effects emission H2S. could also increase heating rate peak temperature pile, reduce sulfur loss, promote dewatering decomposition compost pile. 3% best emissions; it reduced concentration release by 21.0% compared blank group.
